PROJECTS/ACTIVITIES IN 2007-2010 TO BUILD OUR GLOBAL CAPACITY
    I. Major Goals
  1. Design and/or enhance existing one-year or two-year degree programs in international-intercultural studies at our colleges. Target: Twelve (12) colleges.
  2. Provide curriculum development by supporting the creation of international-intercultural modules for infusion into existing courses. Target: Ninety (90) thematic modules and forty five (45) area studies modules.
  3. Provide professional development for faculty by organizing weekly summer workshops, online training/sharing, overseas faculty travel/teaching, short-term professional visits to four-year universities, and annual conferences. Target: Varied number of faculty based on project/activity.
  4. Facilitate collaboration, networking, and sharing among our colleges and other institutions (four-year NRCs, non-profit organizations, and consortia).
    II. Major Projects/Activities
  1. Support the assigned college coordinator and the participating faculty to design or enhance existing one-year or two-year degree programs in international-intercultural studies via Title VI-FIPSE-NEH grant proposals.
  2. Organize six (6) weekly summer (August) workshops based on global themes: a. Languages & Global Communication (in 2007); b. International Conflict & Cooperation (in 2007); c. Human Rights & Cultural Diversity (in 2008); d. Global Healthcare & Education (in 2008); e. Global Poverty & Inequality (in 2009); f. World Food, Water, & Energy (in 2009), g. Globalization & the Environment (in 2010), and h. Languages, Global Communication & Exchanges (in 2010).
  3. Organize three (3) weekly (August) workshops based on area studies: a. China (in 2007 & 2008), b. Southeast Asia (in 2009), and c. Central & South America (in 2010).
  4. Offer (free of charge) an online training/sharing course on international-intercultural pedagogy, global issues, and international field studies for faculty developing modules.
  5. Offer overseas curriculum and professional development for about one-month via Fulbright GPA projects (15-20 faculty, in each project). Under development for summer of 2008: Armenia-Georgia, China, India, Japan-S.Korea, and Malaysia. There is a $1,500 contribution by faculty and/or college, along with several curriculum/professional benefits and obligations.
  6. Facilitate short-term scholarly visits to four-year universities for curriculum-professional development. Lodging, meals, materials and partial mileage/airlines is normally provided.
  7. Organize overseas faculty teaching for a semester/year. Currently, negotiating agreements with institutions in China, and exploring possibilities in Japan, Vietnam, and Russia.
  8. Promote short-term faculty/student study abroad programs organized by our colleges or MIIIE.
  9. Organize the 15th Annual Conference at Bluegrass TCC, Lexington, KY on April 18-19, 2008.
