PROPOSED ITINERARY
The following is a proposed itinerary. Dr. Yugen Yu (Overseas facilitator), Dr. SuiWah Chan (country advisor), Dr. Youmin Lee (country expert) and Dr. Theo Sypris (project director) have devoted much time and energy to make this proposal possible. They have benefited from suggestions and support from colleagues at the University of Michigan, University of Dayton, and University of Wisconsin.

Starting China visit by taking jet flight from Detroit to Beijing, crossing International Dateline. --Beijing, capital of the People’s Republic of China, was the ancient capital of the Yuan, Ming, and Qing Dynasties. The Peking Man first lived there 400,000 years ago. With its magnificent palaces, the Great Wall, and many historical and cultural sites, Beijing represents the apogee of Chinese civilization. |

This palace complex is the largest conglomeration of ancient structures ever built in the world, features more than 800 buildings with 9999 rooms, splendid golden-glazed roofs, red lacquered pillars and vermilion walls. Next stop is the Temple of Heaven, which was used to offer sacrifices to heaven and pray for good harvest in ancient times. --Evening: Enjoy the famous acrobatic show. |

Then walk the Tiananmen Square, the largest public square in the world and center of political power in China. --Evening: attend Peking Opera show. |

--Day: ride bus to Zhujiajiao, one of the oldest water towns in China’s Yangtze basin; then visit farm village and the Kasen Corporation in Haining City. Arriving in Hangzhou in the evening. --Evening: dinner at the famous Louwailou restaurant. --Host Institutions: Zhejiang University and Zhejiang Financial College. --Hangzhou is the Capital of Zhejiang Province, known for its long history, natural beauty, and private enterprise-based economic development. It was the capital of the Southern Song Dynasty. When Marco Polo was sent by the Yuan Emperor to take office there, Hangzhou was at its most prosperous and glorious stage in the 13th century. Marco Polo agreed with the popular saying: “in heaven, there is the paradise, on earth there is Hangzhou and Suzhou.” |
